How Stupid… ?!

How stupid can one single human being really be? I am talking about myself. I was right in the middle of backing up my database and copying stuff to my ipax.at hosting when I clicked on the wrong button in phpMyAdmin and dropped my whole blog database. Exactly that is the reason why the console is still the best way to do stuff! No one could accidentally type “DROP DATABASE ‘wordpress’”.

Good news is that I had all my recent posts in the Firefox cache and I think I will find copies of my reports from Japan somewhere too. Recreating everything will take some time, but we learn best from our own mistakes, right? Next top priority item on my to-do list is of course a stable and reliable backup script.

By the way, a friend pointed me to this site on how to recover data loss with MySQL and binary logging!

2005-09-05: Recovered all I could, week number one is missing and stories for number two need to be rewritten from keywords.

2005-09-14: Yahoo! is now my favorite search engine again. I actually found more of my old blog entrys in Yahoo’s cache — more than in MSN’s or Google’s.
